Pushing beyond your limits

~ by Irmi L

Let’s look at one of the reasons we keep pushing beyond our limit.

First off, there is nothing wrong with setting goals and working towards them. There is nothing wrong with having a dream that scares you a little.

Ask yourself why you are aiming at it?

Is it to please or get the attention of others?

Is it to place yourself high in the social hierarchy you move in?

Is it to finally prove to someone that you can do it, or gain their affection?

It may not be an easy question to ask, and the answer may illude you a couple of times, so be prepared to dig a little.

One of the reasons you may push towards more, is to fill a hole that keeps screaming that you’re not enough. Every decision, every goal, every ambition is set to disprove this voice on the inside of you.

You are already enough.

You are already perfect. Even before you measured up to someone else’s or your own standards, you were enough.

It’s your voice saying you aren’t enough.

That voice is inside you. Change the script. Give it something else to say. The minute the thought comes, counter it with a positive: No, that isn’t true. I fill my spaces with love and care. I bring value wherever I go.

There are no negative emotions in the world, but for the ones we make.

So don’t make them. Find your peace and share it with others. When somebody brings a negative emotion to the room, know that it is not your emotion. Give it back and shift the balance back to peace. You can also leave the room. You are in control. You don’t have to accept the new emotion. If the emotion inside you isn’t positive, find a spot to be alone and self-regulate. Teach yourself the skill of reflection and find where it comes from.

Take this week, see the gift in it and be grateful for the chance to try again.
